Hebrews 11:17-19—By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.
Abraham must have been reeling in shock at God’s unexpected command to offer up Isaac–Isaac, the miracle fulfillment of a long-awaited promise, and the one on whom the whole future of the promise depended. Yet instead of succumbing to doubt, Abraham practiced absolute faith at Moriah—deciding to trust God through his heartache, knowing that God is always faithful to keep His promises. God’s ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. An Edith Henry original.
